The changes to local government structure that came into effect in England on April 1 (9 new Unitary Authorities replacing 37 districts and 7 counties) mean that a corresponding change to the Urban_Rural Classification of Local Authorities was required. The government sub-group set up to implement the changes to the classification also took the opportunity to make some minor changes to the classification itself and to classify a number of higher administrative geographies.
The new classification and the classification of higher level geographies can be found
»here along with technical and guidance notes.
