The Changing Demographics of Rural Areas
RERC researchers based at Birkbeck College and Professor Tony Champion at the University of Newcastle, have been the first to undertake extensive and detailed studies of the changing demographic structure of rural England using the rural_urban classification of local authorities. A synopsis of this work, which incorporates population projections to the year 2028, was recently published in the Age Concern book The Ageing Countryside, the growing older population of rural England 2006. Further work in this area will continue in Phase 2.
